Things I wish weren’t in my brain: Old tv shows edition

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , on December 13, 2008 by nukeitfromorbit

So I was reading this post, about Barack Obama’s transportation policy, and the first thing that pops into my head is the hideous 70s tv show Supertrain (kind of like the Loveboat, but on a giant nuclear powered train):

Not energy policy or the challenges of the coming administration. Supertain. My brain is full of the most unbelievable crap from the 70s and 80s. Completely useless stuff. Why do I remember Supertrain? What good is it doing me? I could use that memory space for useful stuff like remembering where I put my cell phone. Oh well.
Other shows I remember even though I would rather not:
Hello Larry (kind of like Fraser, except with McLain Stevenson and not funny)

Also, Manimal (kind of like, um, nothing else I can think of fortunately):

The fucking fine fucking art of fucking political fucking discourse

From the FBI’s Blagojevich affidavit:

“If they don’t perform, fuck ‘em.”

“hold up that fucking Cubs shit. . . fuck them.”

“it’s a political fuckin’ operation in there.”

“maybe we can’t do this now. Fire those fuckers.”

“our recommendation is fire all those fucking people, get ‘em the fuck out of there and get us some editorial support.”

the Senate seat “is a fucking valuable thing, you just don’t give it away for nothing.

“I’ve got this thing and it’s fucking golden, and, uh, uh, I’m just not giving it up for fuckin’ nothing.”

ROD BLAGOJEVICH said that the consultants… are telling him that he has to “suck it up” for two years and do nothing and give this “motherfucker [the President-elect] his senator. Fuck him. For nothing? Fuck him.”

ROD BLAGOJEVICH states that he will put [Senate Candidate 4] in the Senate “before I just give fucking [Senate Candidate 1] a fucking Senate seat and I don’t get anything.”

ROD BLAGOJEVICH states that he will appoint “[Senate Candidate 1] . . . but if they feel like they can do this and not fucking give me anything . . . then I’ll fucking go [Senate Candidate 5].”

ROD BLAGOJEVICH said he knows that the President-elect wants Senate Candidate 1 for the Senate seat but “they’re not willing to give me anything except appreciation. Fuck them.”

“I could have made a larger announcement but wanted to see how they perform by the end of the year. If they don’t perform, fuck ‘em.”

Damn Kids

Kids these days are… smarter than me apparently

“Americans… born from the late 1950s to the mid-1960s… performed the worst on standardized exams, acquired the fewest educational degrees and [have] been the least attracted to professional careers. In a word, they’re the dumbest.”

Concerned Parent of the Day

Overheard at the mall:

“Are you serious? I have to go out in the parking lot to smoke a cigarette? I have a baby with me, I don’t want to take him out in the parking lot.”

Yeah, that’s tottally what you should be concerned about.

Lithium is the new black (gold)

Posted in Uncategorized with tags on December 5, 2008 by nukeitfromorbit

Are we about to jump from the peak oil frying pan into the peak lithium fire? Lithium-ion batteries are the hot technology for hybrid plug-in cars, but William Tahil, research director with Meridian International Research says: “Analysis shows that a world dependent on lithium for its vehicles could soon face even tighter resource constraints than we face today with oil… concentration of supply would create new geopolitical tensions, not reduce them.”

Depart, I say, and let us have done with you.

Canadian politics has been uncharacteristically interesting lately. The minority Conservative government (which picked up seats in Parliament in 2008 even though they received fewer votes than in the 2006 elections) was about to be ousted from power on Monday by a coalition of opposition parties: the Liberals (the left-center party), the NDP (the left-left party), and the Bloc Quebecois (the angry french guys party). Today Prime Minister Stephen Harper bought himself and his party some time by suspending Parliament for seven weeks. Or to be more technically correct, he convinced Governor General Michaelle Jean (Canada’s ceremonial head of state and representative of Queen Elizabeth) to suspend Parliament for him. Foreigners are weird.
